After 15 years as one of Canada’s most successful rock bands, it only seemed logical that The Trews would release a greatest hits album.
Yet for John-Angus MacDonald, lead guitarist for The Trews, releasing a great hits package wasn’t a straight forward decision. So why now for a greatest hits album?
“The 100-per-cent honest answer is that it was in the contract. The last deal that we signed called for it as the next album,” explained MacDonald in a recent telephone interview prior to a show in Grande Prairie. “We resisted a little bit because as a band we’re always about the next thing. We’ve been on that hamster wheel for the past 12 years — you make a record, you tour it and then you get sick of it and then you make new songs, make a record of it, tour it, get sick of it, make new songs and start the process all over again. We’ve done that six times over.”
